Since you have kids don’t go for high maintenance older Just as an umbrella protects me from rain I wish there was a dumbrella shirt. We got a puppy and boy it’s a lot of work, but you can train them. If I had to do it over again I’d still get one from a rescue or shelter, but one that’s a year or two old. Unless you’re financially able to support an older dog, don’t get an older dog. Even with his old grey, stoic face, my son thinks he’s “the cutest dog in the whole world”. He walks nicely on the leash (even for my son) he still plays, (gently), he snuggles and gives kisses, is calm with kids in general so at school pick up they all love to pet him even though he’s not “a cute little puppy”. He’s a fantastic dog, and I’m so happy we happened upon him.

Wait until the kids are old enough to take care of it Just as an umbrella protects me from rain I wish there was a dumbrella shirt. Then, get a rescue/mutt PUPPY under 4 mos old (easily trainable) w/ a good temperament, not an older dog. Kids will be devastated when the older dogs die. Ensure you start training the first day! Enjoy your love! How old are your kids? Older dogs can be tricky – we adopted a shepherd who was 11-12 and past a year later. But his one year with us was great! He blended well with the family and our other 8-year-old lab. That said, it was a heartbreaker to have him go so soon.
