It enables economic productivity, much like highways or railroad lines do. Further, it also helps support economic equity, because it reduces friction especially for the people who experience the most friction in their lives. Note that all of this is true no matter how it is paid for. Clearly there are good ways to pay for public transportation, and bad ways. That’s an entirely separate issue (I personally I would favor using carbon taxes or income taxes on the most wealthy.)

The issue though, is that when recycling, there will always be small impurities which can have a negative effect on the sound quality, most commonly the pops & crackles we usually associate with vinyl. These can be reduced or even completely removed during manufacturing quality control, but that costs extra & thus any saving benefit from recycling old, is far outweighed by the addition costs of of ensuring a quality product.
